There are some specific<br \/>\n<strong>requirements<\/strong> to bottle and sell olive oil, as well as some bureaucratic steps to follow.<br \/>\nSelling an enogastronomic product such as olive oil means selling an end product<br \/>\nthat aesthetically mirrors the classic bottles of oil we usually see on the market.<br \/>\nIt is difficult to navigate the bureaucracy when applying for <strong>authorisations for<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>bottling oil<\/strong>. It is important clarify a key factor: packaging can be done either in-house<br \/>\nor at oil mills. The procedure to follow for these two cases will be different. Let\u2019s get<br \/>\nstarted!<\/p>\n<h2>Requirements to bottle olive oil: Legislation<\/h2>\n<p>The procedure to <strong>bottle olive oil<\/strong> follows a specific <strong>legislation<\/strong>, as well as some<br \/>\nparticular requirements based on whether the oil is bottled in-house or at the oil mill.<br \/>\nThe following requirements are necessary when the bottling is done in-house:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 VAT number and the various fiscal documents (shipping certificate and<br \/>\ninvoice)<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The health authorisation of the establishment to be applied for from the local<br \/>\nhealth authority<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The notice on commencement of business to be requested to the CAAT, either<br \/>\non paper through the form or online through the KANA platform, which has to<br \/>\nbe accompanied by a valid NINo<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The inspection report from the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)<br \/>\nOn the other hand, when the oil is bottled at the mill, the establishment will have all<br \/>\nthe necessary authorisations and will issue:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The packaging and labelling invoice<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The storage documents<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The Return Packaging form from a Deposit Account.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6778 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/il-tec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/fulvio-ciccolo-Al6U8EdTG58-unsplash-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Requirements to bottle olive oil\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Local oil bottling requirements<\/h2>\n<p>As for the <strong>local oil bottling requirements<\/strong>, each company must write its own HACCP<br \/>\nmanual on oil bottling.<br \/>\nThe manual must include:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 A descriptive part: this will contain information developed to monitor the<br \/>\nhygiene and healthiness of food sold to customers. It will contain a detailed<br \/>\ndescription of the product and its intended use. It will include possible hazards<br \/>\nassociated with the processing and handling of food, as well as the premises of<br \/>\nthe business, sanitary facilities, and storage areas. It will list the hygienic<br \/>\nstandards in place and the critical points in the manufacturing processes to<br \/>\nprotect the consumer.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 The self-control sheets: the person in charge must draw up flow charts and<br \/>\ndiagrams of the various food production stages together with a list of the<br \/>\ntreatments the food has undergone, from processing to sale.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6779 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/il-tec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/melina-kiefer-bavD_RW9pTQ-unsplash-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Requirements to bottle olive oil\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>The APHA inspection<\/h3>\n<p>The results of the inspection are received via email or letter. Should the mill owner<br \/>\nwant another inspection, they can do so within 14 days by asking APHA to test the<br \/>\nproduct again, for a fee of around \u00a3300 to \u00a3600. If the inspection fails at any stage<br \/>\nof olive oil production, including any re-test,\u00a0APHA\u00a0may issue a compliance notice,<br \/>\nwhich will list what is wrong, how to fix it and the time available to do so.
